Museum Victoria, Melbourne, Australia, is seeking a Herpetologist with postgraduate qualifications to undertake research on and curation of its reptile and amphibian collections. The applicant will be expected to seek funding for research and will be encouraged to forge links with universities and other government agencies to further research opportunities, and to participate in student supervision and lecturing. The starting salary range for this ongoing position is Aus$39,374 - $54,140, commensurate with qualifications.
Museum Victoria’s Herpetology Collection comprises over 72 000 specimens of snakes, lizards, frogs, tortoises and turtles, housed mostly in spirit, and includes 51 primary types and 78 secondary types. It is the world’s best collection of southeastern Australian herpetological fauna (including Bass Strait and Tasmania), with regard to time and space. Melbourne Museum, the new home of Museum Victoria’s Natural Science collections, is the largest museum in the Southern Hemisphere, with modern research, collection and public program facilities.
