: : I have a pair of Orgeon newts and a pair of Crested
: : newts and I was wondering if it would be possible to
: : house them all in the same tank? I was also wondering
: : if it would be possible to add a red eyed tree frog to
: : the mixture?
: I would not suggest it.
: Oregon newts (Taricha) are extremely poisonous and
: long term exposure to their skin secretions my
: be lethal to crested newts (Triturus). In addition
: male Taricha clasp their females, or anything
: else that looks like it, during breeding season,
: which can be dangerous as well for Triturus.
: Moreover, Triturus are fairly aggressive and may
: bite your Taricha, damaging their skin and getting
: poisoned at the same time.
: Same thing with frogs: adult red-eyed are quite
: large and may try to eat the newts. In addition,
: these frogs lives on trees (thus require "vertical"
: tanks), while newts are mostly aquatic and need
: more "orizontal" space.
: The best way is rearing every species separately.
Hmmmm...if the animals are toxic in anyway or aggressive, like tree frog, no. Also, the other guy was right about the tree frog needing a tertical tank.
