The Canadian Council on Animal Care is currently developing guidelines on
the care and use of wildlife, and would appreciate hearing your comments on
the draft version. These guidelines are comprised of two parts: general
guidelines; and species-specific recommendations. The species specific
recommendations dealing with amphibians and reptiles are posted here for
your convenience. These recommendation should be considered alongside the
general guidelines on wildlife which are currently posted in draft form on
our website (http://www.ccac.ca).
Please send us your comments on the species-specific recommendations by
March 11, 2002. As you will notice, there are some areas where references
and information are lacking (particularly in the area of acceptable
medical/surgical procedures) and we would appreciate guidance to suitable
references or science-based evidence. Additionally, comments on the
general guidelines are also welcome and these should reach us by March 25,
2002. All responses received will be evaluated by the CCAC subcommittee
on wildlife and used to draft the final version of the guidelines, prior to
approval by the CCAC Council and publication.
Responses should be forwarded to Gilly Griffin, PhD, Director of Guidelines
Development: ggriffin@ccac.ca .
